One of them tackled the suspect while the other grabbed his gun.
Trey Filter, speaking on "Fox & Friends," said there was chaos in the crowd and someone yelled, "Get him!" He looked to his left, saw a flash, and immediately tackled the person.
Another man joined in to help. It all happened in a flash. Trey and his wife Casey spoke from their home in Wichita, recalling the intense incident after gunshots erupted at the parade celebrating the Chiefs' Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.
So, like, after they took down the guy, I guess the gun just fell out and landed right in front of me," Casey remembered.
"I looked down and immediately thought I needed to get rid of it, so I grabbed it and put it by the wall next to me. Then this other guy came and stood next to me.
" She said the gun was an AK-47 rifle, and at first she thought it was just a toy until she picked it up and felt how heavy it was.
When Trey was asked to describe the shooter, he said he didn't see his face.
He said he didn't really talk to the guy, but instead focused on making sure he couldn't grab another gun.
"So basically, the gun fell out and Trey wasn't even sure if the guy still had it," Casey explained.
Ainsley Earhardt, the co-host, asked the couple about how the crowd reacted to their heroic actions, wondering if there were any cheers or applause.
"It was all a blur," Casey replied. "We just rushed to the car right after everything happened." She mentioned that she didn't witness any fights in the crowd before the shots were fired.
Trey added that he noticed military personnel on rooftops during the parade.
"You never know what can happen anytime, and this just proved it," he said.
Despite the chaos, the couple had a great time with their sons and strangers, celebrating their team's victory.
